ABOUT COPSTER BARN

Room to be
yourself.

We’re Chris and Helen Knight. We’ve lived at Copster House Farm since 2012, shaping and sharing a place where people can find space to think, breathe and reflect.

Our hope is that in some way all our guests leave feeling better than when they arrived.

OUR STORY

Small beginnings.
A generous welcome.

In 2019 we refurbished a room in one of the farm’s outbuildings. It became a place for people to step away from their everyday routines and spend time together, or simply enjoy some quiet.

In 2026 we took the next step, becoming a not-for-profit business with planning permission to extend the barn as a retreat and meeting space.

Today, we welcome small groups and individuals for guided retreats, self-guided days, meetings and team development.

Meet Chris & Helen

We share our home with a dog and a few chickens, and have three grown-up children.

Chris

Chris has worked at director level in healthcare, with national responsibilities for mental health before leaving in March 2026. He is a qualified executive coach, with a particular interest in helping people and teams understand themselves and one another.

Helen

Helen has worked as a doctor for 30 years, bringing care and compassion to people living in deprived communities and those on the edges of society.

WHAT MATTERS TO US

A welcome for everyone.

Copster Barn is rooted in our Christian faith and values of compassion. Both of us have served as Lay Readers in the Church of England for ten years.

You are welcome here whether you share that faith, follow another, or have no faith at all. Some of our guided days explore Christian stories and spirituality; others focus on personal growth, relationships and team development.

THE SPACE TODAY

A cosy room.
A little room to roam.

The barn sits in the grounds of our family home in Thurgoland, South Yorkshire. Inside, the meeting room comfortably seats 12–16, with a log burner, kitchenette and toilet. Retreat group sizes vary with each day.

Outside, there is around an acre of gardens, benches in the orchard and a summerhouse overlooking the pond, with far-reaching views across the countryside.

If you have particular access needs, please talk to us before visiting so we can discuss the indoor space and the paths around the grounds.
